The 2016 GBSS Idol round one competition kicked off at the high school in February with 22 musical acts, the 5th season of IDOL. Groups, duos and solo artists began their journey, hoping to reach the final round and ultimately the top three. Round two saw 15 acts compete, round three was down to 8 acts and finally the top 3 were chosen!
MHCF funded the Finale at the Hall on June 3. Providing the Opera House as a venue for these talented students opens the door to many opportunities for them; and gives the vocalists, instrumentalists and even the ‘techies’ a taste of performing in a professional space.
The students produce and direct the show under the guidance of their music teacher Mr. Delaney as well as working together with the professional technicians at the Hall. The entire experience helps the Idol participants to develop a sense of pride and confidence in their abilities and themselves, while gaining life skills. It is an experience that stays with them forever.
Meaford residents, family and friends are treated to an evening of unbelievable talent! The top three show what they’ve got. Although no longer in the competition, the top eight also get to showcase their talents. Members of the audience then have an opportunity to vote for the one they liked best. Abby Woodhouse was this year’s winner, with Jocelyn Smith placing second and Michelle Wright placing third.
Revenue from tickets sales is donated to the Music Department at GBSS.
