I really appreciate the funding to give the opportunity to these GBCS students to get some string training. During this recent term Patrick and I decided to spread the lessons between several students. I worked with Holly (gr. 10) on violin, Mackenzie (gr. 9) on viola and Jamie (gr.12) on viola. All very productive! The young and very promising Mackenzie has continued to take private lessons with me after her ‘free’ ones were concluded. Her family has recently obtained an instrument for her and she is super keen to continue with her music training. She will no doubt become one of the next leaders of Patrick’s music programme in the years ahead! Also, delighted that one of my former Youth Orchestra kids, Jamie, now in Gr. 12 is deciding to do a ‘victory lap’ year (gr. 13) at the school and is purchasing a viola and intends to continue with the private lessons in the fall! Holly is from a larger family and someone for whom the opportunity of private music lessons does not exist so it is great community service to be able to provide these for her! I’m hoping that she will be able to continue to benefit from this programme moving forward! Many thanks to the Meaford Hall & Culture Foundation!! Thanks so much, Richard Mascall – String Teacher, award winning Musician and Composer with the Georgian Bay Symphony.
