Friday October 13, 2017. In partnership with Adventure Canada the MHCF presented “NorthBound” with David Newland and Uncharted Waters featuring throats singers Siqiniup Qilautu – Sunsdrum. They brought the Arctic to Ontario.
The afternoon performance was free for over 300 students from GBCS, as well home schooled kids attended. It was entertaining, educational and interactive. The kids learned the art and competition of throat singing and were quizzed about Canada’s North including the Franklin Expedition. They thought it was cool to see the throat singers in traditional Inuit dress. As well, learning about and seeing different instruments being played; the northumbrian pipes and bodhran drum. The evening show was for the general public and patrons were and I quote “Gob smacked”. The Foundation provided some tickets to Military Family Resource Centre & the 55+ club.
