“Racing to Zero” from the “Youth and Zero Waste” project

COMMUNITY OUTREACH LOGOThe Foundation provided funding so that the film “Racing to Zero” from the “Youth and Zero Waste” project could be shown at Meaford Hall free of charge to local students.

A total of 537 students attended from Georgian Bay Secondary School, Meaford Community School, St. Vincent Euphrasia School, Beaver Valley School and some locally Home Schooled students as well.

After each screening Jaden Calvert, a Meaford Councillor, facilitated discussions. The students engaged in productive conversation and shared their individual efforts with regard to their recycling efforts.

Here are some follow-up comments from two teachers in attendance:

“I loved it. I found it very motivating. I just wonder how feasible it would be. Seems very labour intensive to sort all that garbage. I guess that is your job as a Councillor to allocate funds for these types of closed loop services.”

“My grade 6 class attended the showing of Racing to Zero. They enjoyed it and learned more about how they can limit the amount of garbage they contribute. We had a good class discussion about the movie and how things can improve.”
