MHCF enjoyed helping fund “Summer Art Camp” – the pastel program, for which Mrs. Patricia Kortland was the director.
The week-long camp provided the children with an opportunity to produce a variety of sketches.
On the second last day of camp, the teacher exhibited and discussed the famous Van Gogh “Sunflowers”. The students were given a photocopy and asked to sketch it in their special sketchbooks. Real sunflowers were available as reference for colour, leaf shape, petal shape etc. Their sketches were copied on to a large pastel paper. Student helpers handed out individual boxes of pastels and final work began. Some of their creative work was shown in the Soloman Insurance downtown window.
Mrs. Kortland said, “Staff, student assistants, teacher and campers thank the Foundation for the grant which enabled us to carry out this interesting project.”
